City Preparing for a major Weekend Snowstorm Contact: Andrew Marsh, City Administrator (303) 567-4421, firstname.lastname@example.org
Idaho Springs, Colorado – March 11, 2021. The City of Idaho Springs is preparing for a major winter storm this weekend that is predicted to produce heavy snowfall measured in feet.
Travel is expected to be difficult if not impossible at times, with road closures likely. Mayor Michael Hillman met this morning with the City’s management team regarding contingency plans and will be monitoring the situation as it develops. “I urge residents to obtain any necessary supplies today or tomorrow before the storm’s expected start Friday afternoon. Please leave your cars parked and stay off the roads during the storm.”
Public Works crews will be working throughout the storm with plows and loaders to clear main thoroughfares first. Due to extremely limited areas for snow storage, it will be necessary to also store snow in certain parking areas. The Police Department is coordinating operations with Clear Creek County, the Colorado Highway Patrol and the Colorado Department of Transportation. Efforts will be made to keep travelers out of the Idaho Springs area when it may become necessary to prevent people from becoming stranded or endangered. Persons who encounter an urgent situation during the storm may call the non-emergency dispatch number at 303-679-2376.
