Unsafe Conditions Lead to Condemnation of Lodge of the Rockies

Idaho Springs, Colorado – December 9, 2020.  Following an emergency dispatched call on December 5 to the Lodge of the Rockies rooming house at 1601 Colorado Boulevard, the Clear Creek Fire Authority and the Idaho Springs Building Department conducted on December 8 a life safety inspection of the building after encountering unsafe conditions during the dispatched December 5th call for service.  In response to observed conditions on December 8, some portions of the structure were evacuated.  The City is assisting the owner and occupants in relocating as needed.

The front and rear entrances to the building were also posted with a 48-hour evacuation notice due to the extensive observed unsafe conditions.  A complete assessment of potential life safety violations in the building under the adopted International Building and Fire Codes is being conducted today by the Fire Authority and the Building Department.

The property owner and occupants were notified on December 8 that the building must be vacated by 5:00 p.m. on December 10.  The City and Clear Creek County are offering assistance to the owner and the occupants with resources for relocation. 

The Lodge of the Rockies operates as a rooming house under an annual City Business License.  The building consists of 30 rooms, currently occupied by approximately 25 individuals.
